Canadian youngster Alphonso Davies had a stellar end to 2019 for Bundesliga side Bayern Munich.
Since the end of October, he has started in every games for the German giants, never missing a minute of play in those 13 contests. Davies also dished out four assists during that stretch.
For his efforts, supporters of the club voted the 19-year-old Bayern’s Player of the Month for December, the club announced Friday. Davies captured 41 percent of the vote, finishing ahead of Philippe Coutinho and Robert Lewandowski.
A product of the Vancouver Whitecaps academy, Davies often featured as a winger and played more forward for the Major League Soccer side. But since moving to Bayern, he has transitioned to left back and has excelled there.
In 81 appearances with the Whitecaps from 2016-18, Davies tallied 12 goals and 14 assists. While he’s primarily a defender now, he showed Saturday in a friendly that he can still get forward and find the back of the net for Bayern.
After weaving his way through several defenders using his elusiveness and quick feet, Davies made his way into the box and sliced a shot past Nürnberg’s goalkeeper in the 34th minute. It was Davies’ third goal in 25 appearances across all contests for Bayern.
