Birmingham Legion FC added a player with Major League Soccer experience to its back line Thursday with the signing of Kyle Fisher.
Fisher, 24, joins the USL Championship expansion side on a multiyear deal. A defender who can play centerback or right back, he is the 11th player Birmingham has signed so far.
“Kyle is a player we’ve tracked since his time at Clemson and on to Montreal,” Birmingham president Jay Heaps said in a statement. “He’s an excellent defender and another player we’ve brought in with both MLS and USL experience that will strengthen the spine of our team.”
Fisher was selected 14th overall by the Montreal Impact in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft after a career at Clemson where he was the ACC Defender of the Year, a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy and helped the Tigers reach the College Cup final. Over two seasons, Fisher appeared in 26 games with the Impact, scoring once. He also appeared in 14 games with the club’s former USL affiliate, FC Montreal.
In college, Fisher also spent time with the Portland Timbers’ U-23 squad.
Fisher didn’t play in 2018 as he recovered from surgery to repair a tibial stress fracture.
NCFC gets player on loan from Czech side
North Carolina FC announced Thursday that it had acquired Cameroonian midfielder Duval Wapiwo on-loan from MFK Vyskov, a club in the Czech Republic. Wapiwo is the third player NCFC has on-loan from the club, joining Donovan Ewolo and Yamikani Chester.
“Being a box to box midfielder, (Wapiwo) has the skill set of being a ball winner as well as a player that can make plays in the attacking third of the field,” NCFC head coach Dave Sarachan said in a statement. “I look forward to having him join us and to work with him.”
Wapiwo is 5-foot-9 and 18-years-old. Before joining MFK Vyskov, he played for Apejes FC de Mfou in Cameroon’s top division.
