After spending a season in Major League Soccer, Corben Bone is returning to the USL Championship. Louisville City FC announced last week it signed the veteran midfielder for the 2020 season.

Bone, 31, spent the last four seasons with FC Cincinnati, joining the club for its jump from the second-tier league to MLS in 2019. Last month, the club declined to renew his contract after he appeared in just six games last season. From 2016 through 2018, Bone played in 102 games for Cincinnati in the USL, scoring 16 goals.

“Corben is an excellent attacking midfielder,” Louisville coach John Hackworth said in a statement released by the club. “Throughout his career as a creative attacking player, he has shown that his quality on the ball, coupled with his decision making and competitive mentality, has allowed him to be an influential player. We are excited to add a player of his caliber to our roster in 2020.”

Bone played college ball at Wake Forest and also previously played in MLS with the Chicago Fire and Philadelphia Union. Hackworth and Bone were both with the Union in 2014.

“I am so excited to be joining such an incredible organization in Louisville City,” Bone said.  “The club has established itself as one of the top soccer organizations in the country and continues to be one of the cities that is raising the bar for soccer in North America.  I’m proud to be joining a special group of players and coaches and I can’t wait to get started.”

Earlier this week, Louisville also announced the nucleus of its 2019 squad will return in 2020. The club reached agreements with 16 players. Among those who will return are Magnus Rasmussen, Speedy Williams, Luke Spencer, Napo Matsoso and USL Championship Defender of the Year finalist Oscar Jimenez.
