LYON, France — The referee signaled for video review, and the crowd waited with bated breath. Then the decision came down: penalty kick for the United States.

Megan Rapinoe stepped up and easily converted the PK in the 61st minute, sending a grounder into the right side of the net for a 1-0 lead in the World Cup final against Netherlands. A yellow card was given to Netherlands’ Stefanie Van Der Gragt, who was responsible for the penalty after a high kick caught Alex Morgan in the stomach.

Eight minutes later, Rose Lavelle rifled off a shot between two defenders and doubled the U.S. lead. Watch a replay of both goals below. The game was in the 75th minute at the time of this post and the score remained the same.

If the United States holds onto this lead, it will win a record fourth World Cup title. Netherlands is providing a challenge, though, in the country’s first World Cup final appearance.
