Watch: Alex Morgan gives USA 2-1 World Cup lead over England on her birthday

After the goal, U.S. fans in the stadium sang “Happy Birthday” to the star, who turned 30 today.

LYON, France — The match was tied 1-1 after two early goals when Alex Morgan got her head on a ball passed into the box by midfielder Lindsey Horan.

She sent the ball into England’s net for a 2-1 United States lead in the 31st minute. After the goal, U.S. fans in the stadium sang “Happy Birthday” to the star, who turned 30 today.

The goal also gave Morgan the lead again in the World Cup Golden Boot race with 6 goals and 3 assists. England’s Ellen White briefly took the lead when she scored her sixth goal to even the score 1-1 in the 19th minute. Watch replays of both goals below.

Christen Press, who started in place of Megan Rapinoe, scored the first U.S. goal in the 10th minute. The game was in halftime at the time of this post and the score remained the same. Check back after the match for a full recap, and read all our World Cup coverage here.
