Washington Spirit 2019 preseason schedule: FC Bordeaux among opponents

WASHINGTON — The Washington Spirit released its 2019 preseason schedule, including a game against Division 1 Féminine side FC Bordeaux at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

Washington, which finished second to last in the National Women’s Soccer League last year with one more win than Sky Blue FC, plays four preseason games between March 16 and April 6 in Richmond, Va., Leesburg, Va., and Boyds, Md.

Midfielder Rose Lavelle, Andi Sullivan and forward Mallory Pugh are on the short list for the United States women’s national team roster this summer in France for the 2019 World Cup. They all are scheduled to play in Richmond for the Spirit’s preseason opener less than two weeks after a SheBelieves Cup game in Tampa, Fla.

Washington opens preseason March 16 against James Madison University at the Richmond Kickers’ City stadium. Last year’s preseason match at City Stadium between the Spirit and North Carolina Courage drew an announced 6,235 spectators.

March 16, 7 p.m. — vs. James Madison University at City Stadium in Richmond, Va.
March 23, 7 p.m. — vs. FC Bordeaux at Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.
March 30, 5 p.m. — vs. University of North Carolina at Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg, Va.
April 6, 7 p.m. — vs. Virginia Tech at Maryland SoccerPlex
