Amy Rodriguez was more than 25 yards away from goal.
Still, she had no hesitation before taking a shot. Rodriguez’s long-distance strike was the lone goal as Utah Royals FC defeated Sky Blue FC 1-0 on Saturday.
The goal was Rodriguez’s fifth in the last six contests as she continues to march up the table for top goal scorers in NWSL.
Rodriguez won the ball in her own half and began trekking forward. She easily glided past a Sky Blue defender and found herself in a ton of space.
With three defenders between her and the goal, she decided to unleash a shot with her left foot. The ball rose, curled and then dipped over the outstretched arm of Sky Blue goalkeeper Didi Haracic into the top corner.
Her goal was all Utah (5-2-1, 16 points) needed on Saturday.
Sky Blue (0-6-2, 2 points) finished the game with more total shots and possession but could not find the back of the net.
