Sky Blue FC signed midfielder Nicole Baxter as a national team replacement player on Thursday.
She will be eligible for selection until all players on national team duty return from their World Cup leave. While Cameroon’s Estelle Johnson and Canada’s Kailen Sheridan have returned already, United States women’s national team co-captain Carli Lloyd is not yet available for matches after winning the World Cup at the beginning of the month. The club’s interim general manager Alyse LaHue said last week Lloyd “needs time” before she resumes her Sky Blue duties.
Baxter joins the club after spending 2019 with Asarums IF in the Swedish second division. The midfielder has a familiarity with Sky Blue as a member of the team’s 2016 and 2018 preseason rosters.
Sky Blue also announced the exit of national team player replacement Sabrina Flores. The defender was released from her contract after a successful spell and is expected to announce an overseas move. Flores played Sky Blue’s last four matches, including the team’s first two wins of the season.
Sky Blue next faces the Orlando Pride on Saturday.
