A back and forth game between the Seattle Reign and Chicago Red Stars ended in 0-0 draw Saturday night in front of an announced crowd of 3,597 at UW Medicine Pitch at Memorial Stadium.
The Reign (4-1-2, 14 points) entered the match scoring seven goals during their past two games, while the Red Stars (2-2-6, 12 points) extended their winless streak to six games.
Megan Rapinoe, who leads Seattle in scoring with four goals, had several chances to give her side the lead. In the 17th minute, the forward had a shot stopped by Chicago’s Alyssa Naeher, who finished with four saves.
Seattle goalkeeper Lydia Williams had a player of the match performance to preserve her side’s clean sheet. Williams had two saves in the 42nd minute, stopping a header from Chicago’s Arin Gilliland before denying a right-footed shot from Samantha Johnson.
Williams made another crucial save in the 52nd minute, stopping a powerful free kick from Chicago’s Sofia Huerta. Williams finished with four saves.
Seattle’s closest chance to break the deadlock came in the 68th minute when a shot from 22 yards out from Rapinoe was saved by a Naeher.
The Red Stars outshot the Reign 11-10, but the clubs were equal on shots on target with four.
Seattle takes on the Houston Dash on Wednesday at BBVA Compass Stadium at 8 p.m. ET. Chicago hosts the Orlando Pride on Saturday at Toyota Park at 3:30 on Lifetime.
