Star striker Alex Morgan will not be available for the Orlando Pride on Saturday after suffering an injury in the opening minutes of the team’s game against Chicago on Wednesday. Morgan currently remains in concussion protocol following a collision in the game against the Red Stars.
In the sixth minute of her first start since returning from the World Cup, Morgan was sandwiched in the air between Chicago defenders Julie Ertz and Sarah Gorden while vying for a header. Morgan took a hard hit to the head in the clash, and stayed down on the pitch for several minutes. A stretcher was brought off, but she was able to walk off off the field on her own.
Morgan has struggled with a knee injury since the World Cup, and her recovery delayed her return to the Pride until last Saturday’s game against the Utah Royals.
