HOUSTON – Houston Dash striker Rachel Daly was named to the England Women’s National Team roster by head coach Phil Neville to play in the 2020 SheBelieves Cup on Tuesday.
Daly and the Lionesses will defend their titles as champions of the SheBelieves Cup after taking home the trophy in 2019. England went undefeated the entire tournament, earning victories against Brazil and Japan, and earning a draw against the U.S.
Daly, 28, has scored three goals in 29 appearances for England. She has been a constant name on the roster for a while now and is expected to be a key element for her team in the upcoming tournament and in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The striker was on the Lionesses team that reached the semifinals of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup last summer in France. England placed fourth place in the tournament. Daly appeared in five World Cup matches, including a pair of starts.
As of right now, England is currently ranked fifth in the world by FIFA.
Daly is the lone NWSL player named to the English squad for the upcoming tournament. However, Alessia Russo — who plays college soccer for the North Carolina Tar Heels — will join the squad for training.
The first opponent that England will face in SheBelieves is the U.S. on March 5 at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida. Japan will be England’s second opponent and the match is slated for March 8 at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. Three days later, the Lionesses will encounter their last rival, taking on Spain on March 11 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
After the cup, Daly will return to Houston to get ready for the NWSL season that is set to start April 25 when they host the defending NWSL Champion North Carolina Courage for the Dash’s home opener.
Daly has been with the Dash since 2016 and has tallied 24 goals and eight assists in 80 appearances.
