Houston Dash forward Rachel Daly earned a brace, powering her club to a 2-1 win over Sky Blue FC Saturday in New Jersey.
With the win, Houston (7-8-5, 26 points) kept its NWSL playoff hopes alive. With four games remaining, the Dash are four points behind the fourth place Orlando Pride. The top four teams in the league advance to the playoffs. Three spots remain up for grabs after North Carolina clinched the No. 1 seed and the NWSL Shield.
Sky Blue (0-14-4, 4 points), meanwhile, remains winless this season.
In the seventh minute Saturday, Houston’s Kealia Ohai charged down the left sideline and crossed the ball to Daly, who tapped it high and home for the early lead.
Sky Blue countered in the 64th minute. Savannah McCaskill’s shot was saved by Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell, but Madison Tiernan was in position to put away the rebound and tie the match at 1-1.
In the 73rd minute, Sky Blue’s Raquel Rodriguez was called for a hand ball in the box. Daly buried the ensuing penalty kick to give Houston a 2-1 advantage it would not surrender.
Campbell had five saves for Houston, while Sky Blue’s Kailen Sheridan finished with nine saves.
The New Jersey side played without star Carli Lloyd, who missed the match due to red card suspension.
Houston will play the Washington Spirit on Friday, while Sky Blue will host the Utah Royals Saturday.
