Houston Dash captain Kealia Ohai got engaged to Houston Texans star defensive lineman J.J. Watt, the couple announced Sunday via social media posts.
Watt posted a series of pictures capturing the moment he proposed in a secluded waterfront area with the message, “I’m the luckiest man in the world. #SheSaidYes.”
Ohai shared the same pictures and added the messages, “Still can’t believe I get to be with you forever. I love you @jjwatt.”
Numerous soccer stars responded to the Dash forward’s post, with Carli Lloyd, Mallory Pugh and Ashlyn Harris among those congratulating the athletes on their engagement.
The couple had been dating since 2016. Her sister, Megan, is married to former Texan Brian Cushing and Ohai told reporters she had been friends with Watt for a long time before their first date.
They both recovered from major knee injuries at the same time, with Watt telling Sports Illustrated Ohai was instrumental in helping him deal with the time he was forced to take away from football and handle the distribution of $37 million he raised to help Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts.
