The Houston Dash finally broke two frustrating streaks.
The Dash earned a 2-1 win over the Seattle Reign Wednesday night in front of an announced crowd of 2,376 at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston.
It was the Dash’s (2-4-4, 10 points) first win over the Reign (4-2-2, 14 points) in club history and Houston’s first home victory.
Houston’s Veronica Latsko scored the game-winner in the second minute of stoppage time. Seattle nearly scored on its end, but the Dash regained control and Thembi Kgatlana went on a long run. Latsko’s shot was deflected off Seattle’s Steph Catley and past goalkeeper Michelle Betos to put the Dash up 2-1.
“Obviously we’re all super excited that the Houston Dash finally beat Seattle for the first time,” Kristie Mewis said. “I think that we’ve been working so hard. We’ve had such a hard schedule and I just think we truly deserved to get this win. So all of us are just so excited and it feels really good to get three points at home.”
Beverly Yanez opened scoring for the Reign in the 13th minute, putting away a pass from Jodie Taylor.
In the 68th minute, Seattle’s Kristen McNabb was issued a yellow card for a foul on Nichelle Prince.
Rachel Daly took the free kick from near midfield and Mewis slotted home the ball that was headed in the box before falling to her feet.
Megan Rapinoe subbed on in the second half, but she couldn’t spark a Seattle rally.
