Chicago Red Stars forward Kealia Ohai married Houston Texans lineman J.J. Watt Saturday, adding to a festive offseason for National Women’s Soccer League players.
Ohai posted images from the wedding on her Instagram page, writing, “The best day of my life. … I love you forever, [J.J. Watt.]”
He replied, “The most beautiful bride in the world and the most perfect day. I could not possibly be happier. I love you!!”
Watt posted more images, crediting photographer Corbin Gurkin, luxury photo booth company Fox & Darling and Houston Texans manager of photography and team photographer Zach Tarrant.
The couple met in Houston while Ohai played for the Dash. Ohai’s sister, Megan, married one of Watt’s former Houston Texan teammates, Brian Cushing. Watt has become a vocal supporter of Ohai, the Dash, NWSL and the U.S. women’s national team. When Houston honored her request to be traded to Chicago with the hope a fresh start would jumpstart her career, Watt immediately posted pictures of himself wearing Red Stars sweats. He also admonished a Houston television station for referring to Ohai as Watt’s fiancée rather than by her own name in a headline about the trade.
The wedding drew many of Ohai’s past and present teammates, with USWNT veteran Crystal Dunn documenting the festivities on her Instagram stories. Dunn also recently shared an insider’s look at the wedding of USWNT stars Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger.
The Ohai-Watt wedding weekend included a mix of elegance and more casual athletic wear. Watt posted a video capturing the more relaxed look he wore while dancing with his grandmother.
