Highlights: Vancouver, San Jose draw 2-2 after Yordy Reyna equalizer

Yordy Reyna helped his team salvage a point with a 64th-minute goal Wednesday night that brought the Vancouver Whitecaps even with the San Jose Earthquakes, 2-2.

That score held until the final whistle.

San Jose goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell finished the night with seven saves compared to one for Vancouver keeper Brian Rowe. The Whitecaps outshot the Quakes 22-16 and had nine shots on goal compared to San Jose’s three. They also had nearly triple the number of crosses as their visiting opponent, 33-11, but fewer passes and less possession. See full match stats here.

Nick Lima put the Quakes (2-5-3, 9 points) up 2-1 over the ‘Caps (4-5-3, 15 points) with a curling strike in the 53rd minute. Valeri Qazaishvili had the assist.

The Quakes overcame an early deficit to take that lead. Vancouver’s Cristian Techera received  a through ball from Yordy Reyna to give the Whitecaps  a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute.

Then seconds before halftime, Danny Hoesen evened the score with a goal most Whitecaps players thought was offside. Florian Jungwirth sent a long ball forward and Hoesen raced past Vancouver’s back line to chip the ball over Caps goalkeeper Brian Rowe.

Both sides now have quick turnarounds with matches Saturday night. The Whitecaps travel to meet another Western Conference foe, FC Dallas, at 4 p.m. ET. The Earthquakes return home to host D.C. United in another 10:30 p.m. ET match.
