In the second minute of Orlando City’s home match against the San Jose Earthquakes, rookie forward Chris Mueller made history.
Mueller scored the fastest MLS goal in club history 63 seconds after kickoff. He flew up the right side of the pitch after receiving a long ball from teammate Yoshimar Yotún, shook a defender and then raced into the box before rifling a shot into the far post.
The fastest Orlando City goal prior to Mueller’s came from a Kaká penalty kick 1 minute, 38 seconds into a contentious 2-2 draw with the New England Revolution April 17, 2016 at Camping World Stadium. You can watch that goal here.
Mueller, a 21-year-old Wisconsin graduate, is quickly endearing himself to fans with his offensive production. After the goal, he ran toward The Wall of supporters and screamed in celebration as his teammates leapt on his back. Mueller later assisted a Sacha Kljestan goal in the 35th minute to give the Lions a 2-0 lead over San Jose.

Chris Mueller arguably just played a top 3 half of any player in Orlando City MLS history, imo. Absolutely amazing . His play is keeping Colman on the bench.
