Seattle Sounders FC’s Stefan Frei nabs MLS Save of the Year

Stefan Frei might have been snubbed for MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, finishing second to Zack Steffen of Columbus Crew SC, but no one had a better save this year than the Seattle Sounders netminder.

Frei captured the 2018 MLS Save of the Year for a sensational diving stab late in a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids, it was announced on ExtraTime Radio on MLSsoccer.com Tuesday afternoon.

With the Rapids in search of a late equalizer, Dom Badji slipped a pass across the 18-yard box to an unmarked Shkelzen Gashi. The Swiss-born attacking player put a first-time shot on frame, but Frei scampered across his six-yard box and dived to his left and reached back to get a left hand on the 82nd-minute attempt.

On the Fourth of July, no one provided bigger, or better, fireworks at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park than Frei.
