After 56 scoreless minutes Sunday, a goal was finally scored — an own goal that gave the Seattle Sounders a 1-0 lead in the 2019 MLS Cup at CenturyLink Field. A shot from Seattle’s Kelvin Leerdam defected off Toronto FC’s Justin Morrow and soared past TFC keeper Quentin Westberg. See a replay of the opening goal above.
About 20 minutes later, the Sounders struck again, this time with no help from their opponent. Victor Rodriguez dribbled through two defenders at the top of the box and rifled a low shot into the right side of Toronto’s net for a 2-0 lead. Nicolás Lodeiro and Gustav Svensson were credited with assists.
Raúl Ruidíaz then put the game away in the 90th minute by scoring for a 3-0 Seattle lead. Toronto FC prevented a shutout when Jozy Altidore scored off an Alejandro Pozuelo assist in the 93rd minute, but it was too late to stage more of a comeback. See replays of all the goals in the mmatch below.
