The investor-operator of Columbus Crew SC is sharing its vision for a soccer stadium in Austin, Texas.
Precourt Sports Ventures, which last October disclosed plans to relocate Major League Soccer’s original club, has unveiled a rendering of a stadium site at McKalla Place in Austin.
The site plan, posted to MLS2ATX.com, shows a canopied venue surrounded by walkways, trails, a performance space and a bicycle valet for 500 bikes. The conceptual plan indicates there will be only 1,000 parking spaces. TGB Partners, an Austin-based landscape architect, and design firm Gensler are cited as contributors to the rendering.
The 24-acre site, about 10 miles north of downtown Austin, is owned by the city. Austin City Council is reviewing Precourt’s proposal to develop the former industrial site and is expected to have a conclusion this spring.
Meanwhile, the city of Columbus and the state of Ohio are suing Precourt and MLS in an attempt to prevent the club from leaving. Earlier this month, Judge Jeffrey Brown agreed to pause the lawsuit for 90 days as more information about the club’s financials is sought.
