Tigres UANL of Mexico took down Costa Rica’s Deportivo Saprissa 5-1 Tuesday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2019 Concacaf Champions League.
Enner Valencia scored a hat trick to help his side close out the second leg of the Round of 16 series with a 5-2 aggregate score at Estadio Universitario in San Nicolás de los Garza, Mexico.
Tigres will face Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo in the next round. The Dynamo wrapped up its tie with Guatemala’s Guastatoya 3-1 on aggregate Tuesday night.
Saprissa scored an own goal in the 15th minute to give Tigres a 1-0 lead. Valencia then converted a penalty in minute 25 and extended the lead with goals in minutes 27 and 62. Eduardo Vargas also scored for Tigres in the 37th minute.
