Orlando City has waived right back RJ Allen ahead of the 2019 MLS season.
Allen, 28, played in 18 games (10 starts) for Orlando City last season. He played both right back and centerback for the Lions and had two assists during the 2018 season. He started five of the 17 matches new coach James O’Connor coached for Orlando City last season — including four matches in a row when O’Connor first arrived — but played just once over the Lions final 13 games of 2018.
Allen, who was under contract for the 2019 season, was acquired ahead of the 2018 season via trade with NYCFC, where he had spent his three previous seasons. Orlando City sent NYCFC a third-round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft in exchange for Allen.
He’s the 15th player from last season’s roster not to return to Orlando City.
The Lions finished last season 8-22-4 (28 points) and conceded an MLS-record 74 goals.
