Star striker Dom Dwyer and centerback Lamine Sané did not travel for Orlando City’s match against New York City FC.
Dwyer, who is dealing with a lower-body injury, was seen at training earlier this week, and coach Jason Kreis said he was hopeful Dwyer would be able to play, but the striker will miss his third consecutive game.
Dwyer has six goals so far this season and the Lions are winless (0-4-1) without him in the lineup. He’s considered day-to-day with his injury.
“We think it’s very close,” Kreis said after training on Wednesday.
Sané is dealing with a knee injury. Kreis earlier in the week said the club was going to be cautious in bringing the centerback back due to previous knee issues. Sané wasn’t present for portions of training open to the media this week.
Orlando City (6-5-1, 19 points) will have to utilize yet another new centerback pairing. Chris Schuler broke his arm against the Chicago Fire and is not expected to be back until next week after undergoing surgery. Jonathan Spector is back to full training, but wasn’t expected to play this week as he works to get back to match fitness.
