SANFORD, Fla. — Midfielder Cristian Higuita was honored for his 100 appearances across all competitions with Orlando City before the start of training Monday’s training session.
Higuita is the only player left from Orlando City’s inaugural 2015 MLS season. He was presented with a jersey with the No. 100 and a Tag Heuer watch. Club CEO Alex Leitão was present for the ceremony.
“It was a very special moment for our organization when we have our very first player to reach 100 games,” Leitão said. “We love the fact that it was Cristian. He was with us since the very beginning. We’re very glad to be here and to be able to celebrate him.”
Higuita thanked his teammates and coaches after receiving the jersey and the watch.
“I’m very proud but hoping that this year is the best year for everybody and for the club,” Higuita said through a translator. “Hoping that we can achieve what I’ve been looking for for a long time, which is to get to the playoffs and get to the final and win.”
Higuita has made 94 MLS appearances.
Left back João Moutinho (hamstring) and right back Ruan (quad) were present for the media portion of Monday’s training session but trained to the side. Both are day-to-day.
Striker Dom Dwyer (quad) and Nani were both training with the team during the portion of training open to reporters.
Goalkeeper Adam Grinwis was not present while training was open to reporters. The club has not provided an update on his status.
