Ky-Mani Marley, the son of music legend Bob Marley, will perform at Orlando City Stadium Jan. 10 during halftime of the opening 2019 Florida Cup match between UEFA Champions League contender Ajax Amsterdam and Brazil’s Flamengo.
Marley — a soccer fan, former player and “die-hard” Ajax supporter — will play a couple of his father’s classic songs during the performance, according to a statement released Tuesday by Florida Cup.
“It’s an honor to be invited to participate in this global event,” Marley said in the statement. “I am excited because it’s the perfect combination of my two passions, music and football. Looking forward to sharing wonderful moments.”
Florida Cup CEO Ricardo Villar said Marley’s participation reinforces the tournament’s “message of unity and diversity.”
Florida Cup is an annual international tournament with matches held throughout Central Florida.
The week-long event will run from Jan. 6-13, serving as a tune-up for teams from Europe and Latin America before they begin their respective seasons. It also includes community events, such as concerts, trips to theme parks and a 5K run.
