On Frame: Checking in with Jill Ellis and ex-Seattle Sounders academy director Marc Nicholls

“Before the World Cup final, the Netherlands put out a video thanking the US team for moving the game forward. I thought that was remarkable – a telling sign of the reach of this team.”

Jill Ellis has arguably been the most influential coach in America soccer this decade. The native of England coached the U.S. Women’s National Team to World Cup titles in 2015 and 2019 – the only women’s coach to win back-to-back titles.

Ellis retired as the all-time winningest coach for the U.S. women after her team defeated the Netherlands, 2-0, in the 2019 World Cup final.

Pro Soccer USA’s Glenn Crooks spoke with Ellis on SiriusXM FC’s “Defining Moments of the Decade.”

“Before the World Cup final, the Netherlands put out a video thanking the U.S. team for moving the game forward,” Ellis said. “I thought that was remarkable – a telling sign of the reach of this team, how they affect teams in other countries.”

Also on this episode, we spoke about former Celtic FC coach Ronny Deila potentially becoming NYCFC’s next head coach before the club officially hired him Monday.

And PSUSA spoke to Marc Nicholls, who was the academy director for the Seattle Sounders before making the move to technical director of MLS expansion side Charlotte Tuesday.
