The New York Red Bulls transferred forward Anatole Abang to Nantong Zhiyun FC in China League One, the club announced today.

“We wish Anatole all the best in this next step,” Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett said in a statement. “We are pleased to have found a transfer that is beneficial for both the player and the club.”

The 22-year-old scored five times in 25 appearances for the Red Bulls since signing in 2015. The Cameroonian forward saw time on loan with several clubs, most recently FC Astra Giurgiu in Romania.

He scored four goals in 17 appearances in 2015 and, after seeing limited action in eight contests in 2016, Abang was loaned to Red Bulls II before joining Danish Superliga side Hobro IK and SJK in Finland.

From there he went on a year-long loan with Astra Giurgiu in Romania’s Liga I that ended last July, when he returned to the Red Bulls

The Red Bulls exercised the option on his contract in December, but less than 24 hours later Abang was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. His next scheduled court appearance was Feb. 26.
