The New York Red Bulls have waived Andreas Ivan, the club announced Wednesday morning.
The 24-year-old winger, who was signed last July after playing with SV Waldhof Mannheim in Germany, made 21 regular season appearances for the club, starting six times, and had one goal and two assists. The Romanian played 23 minutes off the bench in a 3-2 loss to the Columbus Crew July 27.
His first MLS goal was also against the Crew in a season-opening 1-1 draw at MAPFRE Stadium in March. It was the second consecutive game he scored, also finding the back of the net in the second leg of the Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 match against Atletico Pantoja from the Dominican Republic.
Ivan earned $330,600 in guaranteed compensation this season, according to the MLS Players Association annual salary guide. He was the ninth highest paid player on the Red Bulls this season.
