New York City FC midfielder Alex Ring sustained a Medial Collateral Ligament sprain and the subluxation of the patella to his right knee while training on international duty with the Finland national team. The club announced that they expect Ring to return to action in four weeks.

Ring — — arguably the top No. 6 in Major League Soccer through the first three weeks of the season — suffered the injury during Wednesday’s session with Finland where he was expected to play in a pair of friendlies during the international weekend.

Ring joins David Villa and Rodney Wallace on the sideline for today’s match in Foxboro, Mass. against the New England Revolution. Villa is still nursing a calf injury while Wallace was called up by Costa Rica and entered in the 64th minute of their 1-0 victory over Scotland.

Jo Inge Berget will make his competitive debut for NYCFC in place of Villa while Ebenezer Ofori earns his first MLS start for Ring.
