As expected, the New England Revolution signed rookie midfielder DeJuan Jones to a professional contract Monday morning.
The Revolution selected Jones with the 11th overall pick in the 2019 MLS Superdraft out of Michigan State, where he was a four-year starter.
Jones has seen significant playing time during preseason and adds some speed and depth to New England’s flank. He contributed to the Revolution’s 2-1 victory over Reykjavik in their preseason finale Saturday, causing the play that led to Luis Caicedo’s game-winning goal.
The 21 year-old recorded 16 goals and 14 assists in 75 collegiate appearances. He will wear no. 24, which was last worn in New England by 2014 MVP candidate and current Los Angeles FC midfielder Lee Nguyen.
New England starts the 2019 season on Saturday when it visits FC Dallas.
