And security guards chasing down a fan who ran onto the pitch. Sunday night’s matchup between Atlanta United FC and the New York Red Bulls had a little bit of everything.

As the Chicago Fire’s slow start to 2018 continued Sunday with a 3-2 home loss to the Houston Dynamo, one word seemed to be the theme: frustration.

 

Minnesota United 1, Sporting KC 1STATS

Short-range goals from Khiry Shelton and Darwin Quintero ultimately resulted in a 1-1 draw between first-place Sporting Kansas City (7-2-3, 24 points) and Minnesota United (4-7-1, 13 points).

D.C. United 3, San Jose 1 — STATS

At full strength, but without a full effort, the San Jose Earthquakes lost 3-1 to DC United at Avaya Stadium Saturday night. The hosts staked the visitors to a three-goal lead in the first half and never recovered.

 

Philadelphia 4, Real Salt Lake 1STATS

The Philadelphia Union’s first-ever victory over Real Salt Lake came in dominant fashion, as they won 4-1 Saturday night at Talen Energy Stadium. Marcus Epps, Borek Dockal, Ilsinho and Keegan Rosenberry scored.

Columbus Crew 1, New England 0STATS

 Lalas Abubakar leapt to nod in an 85th-minute corner kick from Federico Higuain and lead Columbus Crew SC to a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution Saturday night at rain-soaked Gillette Stadium.

 

FC Dallas 2, Vancouver 2STATS

Kei Kamara helped the Vancouver Whitecaps (4-5-4, 16 points) steal a road point against FC Dallas (4-1-5, 17 points) Saturday with a 100th-minute penalty kick that ended the game in a 2-2 draw.

 

Portland Timbers 2, LAFC 1STATS

Samuel Armenteros scored his first MLS goal in the 81st minute and the Portland Timbers won their fifth straight game with a 2-1 victory over Los Angeles FC on Saturday.

NYCFC 4, Colorado Rapids 0STATS

It was David Villa Day at Yankee Stadium. In a driving rain, New York City FC honored Villa in a pregame ceremony for scoring his 400th career goal against FC Dallas two weeks ago.  

 

Friday, May 18

Toronto FC 2, Orlando City 1STATS

It wasn’t the bounce-back game Orlando City coach Jason Kreis wanted. Encouraging? Maybe. But not the response to an emotional loss the Lions needed in order to get back on track.

 

Wednesday, May 16

Vancouver 2, San Jose 2STATS

Yordy Reyna helped his team salvage a point with a 64th-minute goal Wednesday night that brought the Vancouver Whitecaps even with the San Jose Earthquakes, 2-2.
