MLS Combine: Team X finishes unbeaten after winning 2-1 against Team Nemeziz

ORLANDO, Fla. — Team X defeated Team Nemeziz 2-1 Wednesday morning at Orlando City Stadium during the final day of the 2019 MLS Player Combine. 

“I think it’s hard playing with some of the players you don’t know, but there’s a lot of high quality players,” said Denver forward Andre Shinyashiki, who scored Team X’s second goal. “I was obviously able to find a goal, which is always good. I think I could’ve done better on the ball, but overall, I think it was a good performance.” 

In the 20th minute, Team X opened the scoring when Pacific University midfielder Camden Riley forced Louisville midfielder Geoffrey Dee to commit a turnover, striking the ball past St. John’s University goalkeeper Lenny Wilson for the 1-0 lead.

Team X doubled the lead in the 36th minute when UCLA midfielder Anderson Asiedu dished the ball to the left side to Denver University forward and MAC Hermann Trophy finalist Andre Shinyashiki, who struck from close range to increase the lead to 2-0. 

Team Nemeziz entered Wednesday’s match after winning 4-1 against Team Copa on Saturday. Team X defeated Team Predator 2-0 that same day. 

In the 42nd minute, Michigan State forward DeJuan Jones almost put Team Nemeziz on the score sheet after striking the ball over the crossbar. 

In the 60th minute, North Carolina forward Nils Bruening came close to scoring Team Nemeziz’s first goal when his shot from close range was saved by Akron goalkeeper Ben Lundt. 

Moments later, in the 61st minute, FIU forward Santiago Patino put Team Nemeziz on the score sheet when he headed a ball off a cross from Geoffrey Dee to cut Team X’s lead to 2-1.
