Minnesota United’s Mason Toye suspended additional game for spitting on FC Dallas’ Reggie Cannon

Toye has been suspended for the Loons games against the Colorado Rapids and Orlando City SC in Week 24

Minnesota United forward Mason Toye has been suspended an additional game to go along with an undisclosed fine by the MLS Disciplinary Committee for spitting on FC Dallas defender Reggie Cannon late in a game Saturday at Toyota Stadium, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.

Toye was send off on a straight red card in an incident that occurred after Brandon Servania’s stoppage-time goal.

He will serve the first game of his ban Wednesday night when the Loons meet the Colorado Rapids. Toye is also suspended for Minnesota United’s match against Orlando City SC Saturday night.

In a video released by the league, Toye can be seen spitting. A moment later Cannon takes off his jersey to wipe it on the ground before putting it back on. He was given a yellow card for removing his jersey.

After the game, Toye issued an apology for what he called “distasteful and inexcusable” actions.

The disciplinary committee also fined the Seattle Sounders and coach Brian Schmetzer for violating the league’s mass confrontation policy during the 88th minute of their match Aug. 10 against the New England Revolution. It was the Sounders’ third violation this season.
