Former Orlando City coach Adrian Heath praised the decision to name former Lions midfielder James O’Connor the club’s next head coach.
Heath said he was “absolutely delighted” O’Connor was selected to lead Orlando City following the firing of Jason Kreis.
Heath, who now coaches Minnesota United, led Orlando City during the club’s USL days when O’Connor was with the team as both a player and a player-coach.
“He’s worked really hard for this opportunity,” Heath said of O’Connor after Minnesota United’s 1-0 loss to FC Dallas on Friday.
“He was coaching with me when I was back there in the early days when we were USL. He’s worked really hard, done a great job at Louisville, so it’s nice to see another guy at the USL get an opportunity. I’m sure he’ll do very well.”
With a smile, he added, “He’s a good guy, good coach and if they give him time, I’m sure he’ll do alright.”
