LAFC announced its opening matches for the 2019 season on Thursday, highlighted by a home opener against Western Conference finalist Sporting Kansas City. The two teams quickly became fierce foes in conference play during LAFC’s inaugural season. Now, LAFC will look for its first-ever victory over Kansas City to kick off its sophomore year.
Last year, LAFC started the season with six straight road games while construction on Banc of California stadium was completed. This year will be drastically different. The team will have a home stadium from the first game of the season, and a passionate fanbase to fill it. After finishing the 2018 season 16-9-9, with a top spot in the Western Conference and a berth into the playoffs, the club’s sights are set high for 2019.

That will all kick off with a blockbuster rematch between two clubs who battled for the top of the Western conference throughout last season. Sporting KC took home wins on two occasions last season, forcing one of the team’s only losses on its home turf in their first 2-0 meeting and then battling to a 2-1 victory in Kansas City despite allowing a red card and a penalty kick.
LAFC is also locked into the June 1 home opener for the Portland Timbers, which will debut the updated Providence Park after spending half of the season on the road. The rest of the full season schedule will be released in January.
The two games offered fierce opposition as the two quick, offensively-minded teams dueled, and the season opener will offer similar energy. Tickets will go on sale to season ticket holders first, and single-game tickets will be released later next year.
