LOS ANGELES — Banc of California stadium will host an international friendly for the first time. The match will take place March 6 between El Salvador and Guatemala, just days after Los Angeles FC kicks off its second Major League Soccer season with a home opener against Sporting Kansas City.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT for the match, informally known as the Clásico Centroamericano, and it will provide fierce competition on both sides despite its friendly nature. Guatemala is preparing for World Cup qualifiers after several years of FIFA suspension. Meanwhile, El Salvador will need to use the game as a tune-up match as it prepares to face Jamaica in the Concacaf Nations Cup.
The events will also serve as a celebration for local Salvadoran and Guatemalan fans, according to the club. A “Fiesta Centroamericana” will be held outside the stadium with food, drinks and music beginning four hours before kickoff.
General tickets will go on sale Friday morning at 10.
