Los Angeles FC made its first offseason signing Wednesday, acquiring 21-year-old centerback Eddie Segura on loan from Colombia’s Atlético Huila.
Segura will join LAFC for preseason training ahead of its second Major League Soccer season on a six-month loan with a purchase option, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1 visa, according to a statement released by the club. He will take an international spot on the roster for 2019.
“At such a young age, Eddie has accumulated a wealth of experience in Colombia, and we believe he has the requisite potential and qualities to make an immediate impact to our backline next season.” John Thorrington, LAFC’s general manager and executive vice president of soccer operations said in the statement. “Eddie is a strong, dynamic defender who fits well with how we play, and, similar to our other players, will continue his progress as a player here in Los Angeles.”
Last year, Segura captained Atlético Huila to a fourth-place finish in the regular season of the Torneo Apertura and a trip to the semifinals. In two years with the club, Segura played in 80 matches across all competitions, scoring two goals in 7,121 minutes. Segura joined Huila after spending his first four professional seasons in Colombia’s second division with Deportivo Pereira.
