LAFC exercised the contract options of five players and declined the options of seven others, the club announced Tuesday. As a result of the moves, LAFC has a total of 16 players under contract for next season.
Of note, forward Marco Ureña’s contract option was declined. During the 2018 regular season, there was speculation as to which forwards would remain with the club because there had been a surplus of talent at that position. Ureña made 18 appearances for LAFC, with one goal and five assists in his 1,015 minutes on the field.
MLS veteran midfielder Benny Feilhaber is one of four players out of contract at the end of the year, along with defender Walker Zimmerman, who has received a “Bona Fide Offer” from LAFC, making him ineligible for the MLS Re-Entry Draft.
Players with options exercised: goalkeeper Tyler Miller, midfielders Mark-Anthony Kaye, Lee Nguyen and Josh Pérez and forward Shaft Brewer Jr.
Players with options declined: goalkeepers Charlie Lyon and Quillan Roberts, midfielders Nico Czornomaz, Calum Mallace and James Murphy and forwards Steeve Saint-Duc and Marco Ureña.
Players out of contract on Dec. 31 2018: defenders Jordan Harvey, Dejan Jaković and Walker Zimmerman (received Bona Fide Offer) and midfielder Benny Feilhaber.
Players with expired loan agreements who will return to their clubs: goalkeeper Luis López (Real España, Honduras), defender Danilo Silva (Internacional, Brazil), midfielder Aaron Kovar (Seattle Sounders, MLS).
LAFC roster as of Nov. 27 (16):
Goalkeepers (1): Tyler Miller
Defenders (4): Steven Beitashour, Tristan Blackmon, João Moutinho and Eddie Segura
Midfielders (5): Mark-Anthony Kaye, Eduard Atuesta, Andre Horta, Lee Nguyen and Josh Pérez
