CARSON, Calif. — Two goals from star forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic led the LA Galaxy to a 2-0 win Wednesday night over FC Dallas in front of an announced crowd of 19,653 fans at Dignity Health Sports Park.
Ibrahimovic now sits at 18 goals scored this season, which puts him at third place overall in the MLS Golden Boot race.
Several starting players for the LA Galaxy rested for this match, as it is the second of four matches within a ten day span for the team. Regular starters Uriel Antuna, Favio Alvarez and Giancarlo Gonzalez started from the bench, while Perry Kitchen and Joe Corona were not included in the 18-man roster.
The Galaxy’s newest signing, Cristian Pavon, made his home debut and played a role in both of the team’s goals on the night. Ibrahimovic scored his first of the match in the 68th minute after a string of passes among his Galaxy teammates ended with him cleanly finishing a shot to the near post, past FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse González.
Jorgen Skjelvik was credited with the assist on the goal and the play showed a positive development in terms of team chemistry, as four Galaxy players touched the ball before Ibrahimovic slotted it away.
Ibrahimovic completed his brace and sealed the Galaxy’s win in the 82nd minute by scoring on a penalty kick. Pavon drew the penalty after he was dribbling in the 18-yard box and was tripped up by FC Dallas defender Reggie Cannon. The Galaxy were able to maintain their two goal lead and finish the match with a victory.

Ibrahimovic did try for a third goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time, putting a free kick on-target, but Gonzalez was able to stop it for Dallas.
The Galaxy don’t have much time to rest, as the Seattle Sounders are coming to town for their match on Saturday. Including this match against FC Dallas, the Galaxy face Western Conference opponents for nine of their final ten matches of the season, giving them a big opportunity, or a big test, to improve themselves in the Western Conference standings.
