The LA Galaxy have announced the signing of midfielder Sacha Kljestan, who was a free agent following the 2019 MLS season. The 34-year-old Huntington Beach, Calif. native made 53 appearances over the last two years for his previous club Orlando City SC, notching seven goals and nine assists in that time.
“Sacha is talented veteran that will add depth and leadership to our midfield position,” LA Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese said in a statement. “He is a local product that we believe will benefit us both on the field and in our locker room and we are excited to add his experience to our roster. We look forward to him joining our club.”
Kljestan has spent 10 seasons in MLS, starting with the now-defunct Chivas USA from 2006 to 2010 after being selected fifth overall in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft. After winning three titles in a five-year stint with Anderlecht in Belgium, he competed for the New York Red Bulls from 2015 to 2017 where he notched 51 assists and earned the captain armband.
Kljestan is eighth all-time in MLS with 93 career assists. He’s made 52 appearances for the U.S. men’s national team, his last coming in 2017, scoring six goals.
