The LA Galaxy have made the first MLS acquisition of 2020, reportedly signing veteran defender Emiliano Insúa on a free transfer from German club Stuttgart.
The LA Times reported the signing, indicating allocation money was not used and a formal announcement could be as early as Thursday. On Monday, German outlet Kicker said the deal was done and Insúa, who was entering the final six months of his contract, would arrive on a free transfer.
TyC Sports in Argentina reported it’s a one-year deal with an option for a second season.
The 31-year-old Argentine left back is well traveled, starting his professional career at Boca Juniors after coming up through the club’s famed youth ranks. He joined Liverpool on loan in 2007 and made 45 appearances with the English Premier League powerhouse before being loaned to Galatasaray in Aug. 2010.
Insúa played for Sporting CP in Portugal and Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano in La Liga before landing at Stuttgart, where he’s played 125 games since 2015.
He has five caps for Argentina’s national team, the last coming in 2017, after competing for the U-20 and U-23 teams.
