Mauro Manotas gave the Houston Dynamo a very early 1-0 lead over the Philadelphia Union during Wednesday night’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Manotas scored in the 4th minute after teammate Alberth Elis chased down a ball near the endline and crossed it in front of goal. Manotas got low to his knees to avoid diving Union goalkeeper Andre Blake and head in the go-ahead goal.
About 21 minutes later, Manotas extended that lead by dribbling in from the right side to the top of the box and finishing with a grounder into the lower left corner of the net. Elis was credited with an assist on the second goal as well.
The game was in the 30th minute at the time of this post and the score remained 2-0. ESPN2 is broadcasting the match, which can also be streamed on the WatchESPN app.
