HOUSTON – Fan favorite and long-time Houston Dynamo player Boniek Garcia re-signed with the club Friday, along with fellow Honduran Maynor Figueroa and El Salvador international midfielder Darwin Cerén.
“We are pleased to announce that Boniek, Maynor and Darwin will be returning for the 2020 season. All three are excellent players who bring veteran leadership to the locker room and are great role models for our younger players to learn from,” Dynamo senior vice president and general manager Matt Jordan said.
“Boniek was outstanding last year and knows what it means to represent the Dynamo and the city of Houston. Maynor immediately earned the respect of everyone in our club when he joined us last year and brings a level of professionalism that every team needs. Darwin’s versatility and team-first attitude make him an important piece of our team on and off the field.”
Garcia, 35, will wear Dynamo colors for the ninth consecutive season – the midfielder has been essential for the team on and off the pitch. He played 2,584 minutes in 32 appearances for the club last season, both of which were MLS highs.
Although Figueroa has only been with the Dynamo for one season, he has become a key to the club’s defense. The center back finished with three assists in 25 appearances.
The defender has made over 25 appearances in three of the last four MLS seasons. He spent 2016-2018 with FC Dallas.
Ceren has played in 37 matches for the Dynamo since joining the club in a trade with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2018. The 29-year-old played in 13 contests a year ago.
With the re-signing of the three players, the Dynamo now have 23 players under contract for the upcoming season.
