HOUSTON – Honduras internationals Alberth Elis and Maynor Figueroa have been called up for international duty. Both Houston Dynamo players will represent their country in two September friendlies during the FIFA international window.
Elis has been an essential piece of the Dynamo attack, possessing speed, skill and vision. La Panterita has scored 28 goals and 22 assists in all competitions for Houston during the time with the team. The 23-year-old is the fifth player in club history to score 20 or more goals and provide 20-plus assists in league play.
Elis has received 37 caps and scored seven goals for Honduras.
The 36-year-old Figueroa is a defensive pillar for the Dynamo in 2019, something Houston lacked in prior seasons. The left-footed center back holds the Honduras record with 157 career appearances.
Romell Quioto, a regular for the Honduras men’s national team, was not called up. Quioto last played with La H in June at the Concacaf Gold Cup, where he sustained an injury that left him sidelined for several weeks.
Another Houston name missing from this Honduras squad is Boniek García. The Dynamo midfielder has been in good form and is physically solid. Boniek also was omitted from international duty during the March FIFA window.
Honduras will host Puerto Rico Sept. 5 in Tegucigalpa and Chile Sept. 10 in San Pedro Sula.
