HOUSTON – Defender Erik McCue will represent the Houston Dynamo during the 2019 MLS Homegrown Game July 30. The MLS team will face the U-20 Chivas de Guadalajara side in Orlando.
McCue is the fourth-youngest player on the 2019 Homegrown Team roster at 18. Although young, he has shown potential and has already won several honors, including the Dynamo academy’s Ricardo Clark Leadership Award last season and was named the academy’ U-19 Players’ Player of the Year.
The young defender hopes to display his skills as well as represent his team well.
“It’s really exciting, to be honest, I remember what this game last year and it’s really a cool feeling to actually get to participate in it this year. I am quite honored I get to represent the Dynamo,” said McCue.
“I am really honored and hoping to show what I have learned after signing my contract and show what I can do.”
The Houston club signed McCue to the Dynamo first team on Oct. 30. He was the 10th Dynamo academy product to sign with the first team. McCue made his professional debut on March and has since been learning the skills to be a better player.
“These past six, seven months have been a really good opportunity for me to train with a really great group of players with really good personalities as well. It’s pushing me every day to get better,” said McCue of his teammates.
The Homegrown roster is comprised of 22 players from various MLS teams and will be coached by Orlando City SC academy director Marcelo Neveleff.
