United States men’s national team midfielder Weston McKennie continued his sterling start to Schalke 04’s Champions League campaign on Wednesday.
The former FC Dallas academy product scored the lone goal in Schalke’s 1-0 victory over Lokomotiv Moscow in the 88th minute to put his side atop Group D. He rose to head a Yevhen Konoplyanka corner kick into the lower left corner of the net for his first career goal in a competitive fixture on European soil.

McKennie, who on Monday was named to the U.S.’ roster for a pair of friendlies later in October against Colombia and Peru, has been prolific for the Bundesliga side.
He assisted on Breel Embolo’s goal in Schalke’s 1-1 tie with FC Porto to open this year’s Champions League slate.
McKennie, 20, joined the Schalke 04 youth academy in 2016 and has made five appearances in all competitions for the club’s senior team this year.
