Nashville SC signs four players from USL Championship roster for jump to MLS

Matt LaGrassa, Ken Tribbett, Taylor Washington and Alan Winn will join Nashville in its jump from USL to MLS.

There are at least six players who will make the jump from the USL Championship to Major League Soccer with Nashville SC.

Daniel Rios and Cameron Lancaster — a pair of strikers who played with Nashville on MLS contracts this past season — are two, and the four others were announced Friday. Nashville has signed Matt LaGrassa, Ken Tribbett, Taylor Washington and Alan Winn to its MLS expansion squad for upcoming 2020 season.

Terms of the deals with the four players were not disclosed.

“We are really proud of Matt, Ken, Taylor and Alan for what they’ve been able to provide over the course of these past two USL Championship seasons,” Nashville general manager Mike Jacobs said in a statement. “And (we’re) excited for them to continue their development on this journey to Major League Soccer.”

LaGrassa, 26, is a central midfielder and was one of the club’s first signings as a USL side. He has appeared in 65 matches for Nashville over the past two seasons, helping them qualify for the playoffs both years. He had two goals and two assists this past season.

Tribbett, 27, played as a centerback and defensive midfielder for Nashville this past season. He also contributed offensively, tallying four goals and two assists over 25 matches. Tribbett has played in MLS previously, featuring in 24 matches for the Philadelphia Union in 2016 and 2017.

Washington, 26, is a versatile defender who can also contribute to the attack. He played some in D.C. United’s academy system and was drafted by the Philadelphia Union in 2016.

Winn, 23, is young attacking talent who has notched seven goals and four assists in 55 appearances with Nashville over the past two seasons. He is a former SuperDraft pick by the Colorado Rapids.

Following these signings and the expansion draft earlier this week, Nashville’s roster now stands at 19 players. They have used up four international roster slots and one Designated Player spot.

Nashville SC will make its MLS debut on Feb. 29, 2020 when it hosts Atlanta United FC at Nissan Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.
