Inter Miami announced the signing of forward Jerome Kiesewetter Monday afternoon.
Kiesewetter, 26, joins the 2020 Major League Soccer expansion franchise from El Paso Locomotive of the second-tier USL Championship. In one season for El Paso, the German-American scored 12 goals across 28 appearances.
“Jerome brings speed, athleticism and experience to our roster,” Inter Miami sporting director Paul McDonough said in a prepared statement. “We are pleased to bring him to Inter Miami and begin working with him in preseason.”
Kiesewetter began his professional career in Germany with Hertha BSC’s youth academy and second team from 2007 to 2014. He then joined VfB Stuttgart and appeared twice for the senior team while totaling five goals and 13 assists in 55 appearances for VfB Stuttgart II.
In 23 appearances for Fortuna Düsseldorf from 2016 to 2018, Kiesewetter contributed two goals and one assist and played a role in the side that won the 2017-18 2. Bundesliga championship to earn promotion to the German top flight. He also appeared in 11 games for Fortuna Düsseldorf II.
Kiesewetter is a United States international with two senior caps coming in substitute cameos during friendlies against Iceland and Canada in 2016. He has played in more than 30 games for the U.S. senior, under-18, U-20 and U-23 teams with eight total goals.
Kiesewetter is Inter Miami’s ninth signing. The team will add to its inaugural roster this Tuesday via the MLS Expansion Draft.
