FC Cincinnati may have found its man to start between the posts next season.
The Major League Soccer expansion side, which will begin play in 2019, announced Thursday it signed Przemysław Tytoń. The Polish goalkeeper comes to Cincinnati on a free transfer and will occupy one of Cincinnati’s international roster spots.
His contract is pending the approval of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate, the club said.
“I really like the project of this FC Cincinnati team, I believe in this project and I want to be part of it,” Tytoń said in a statement issued by FCC. “I think it’s the right moment to start something from the beginning, that’s why I decided to come to Cincinnati. We all together will start something new.”
Tytoń, 31, comes to MLS after a lengthy career in Europe, where he played for clubs in Spain, the Netherlands, Germany and Poland. He most recently played for Deportivo de La Coruña, a club in La Liga, Spain’s top-tier.

The 6-foot-5 goalkeeper has also starred for PSV and Roda JC Kerkrade in the Netherlands, Górnik Łęczna in Poland, Elche in Spain’s La Liga, and VfB Stuttgart in Germany’s Bundesliga. Tytoń has more than 200 career appearances in Europe’s top leagues and has tallied more than 30 clean sheets. In 2012, he helped PSV win the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Shield. He also played in the UEFA Champions League with PSV.
“He’s someone who has thrived when playing in high pressure situations for both club and country and we believe he’ll be a great fit here in Cincinnati,” FCC head coach Alan Koch said in a statement.
Tytoń has also represented Poland on the international level and has 14 caps with the national team. He has played in three World Cup qualifiers and appeared in three matches when Poland competed in the 2012 UEFA Euro Championship.
So far, Cincinnati has just one other goalkeeper on its roster, 26-year-old Spencer Richey. The 6-foot-2 American played in 14 USL matches for Cincinnati in 2018, on-loan from the Vancouver Whitecaps. Cincinnati traded for his rights earlier this week.
We are signing a top quality goalkeeper, a great human being and a winner with playing experience against the best in the world. Welcome to @MLS and the @fccincinnati family Titi! ⚽️🔶🔷🇵🇱 #FCCincy #GKunion pic.twitter.com/ELIdbWY3bT
