Austin officially is going to be a Major League Soccer city.
After extended protests from Columbus Crew fans fighting the relocation of their club and local debate over the land to be used to build a soccer-specific stadium in Central Texas, MLS Commissioner Don Garber officially welcomed Austin FC into the league as the 27th franchise.
Austin FC set to begin play in 2021 at a privately-financed 20,000-seat stadium in North Austin. Check out the livestream featuring Garber, Austin FC majority owner Anthony Precourt and others Tuesday night. Check back later tonight for full coverage of the MLS announcement.
